The White House has expressed satisfaction over the beginning of the implementation of the EU embargo on oil exports from Iran, indicating that Tehran is presented with an opportunity to progress in its discussions with big powers in this week's talks. "This collective decision of the 27 countries of the European Union represents a substantial additional commitment on the part of our European allies and partners to seek a peaceful resolution that addresses the international community's concerns about Iran's nuclear program," White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement aired by Radio SAWA Sunday morning. Carney said the EU move was an "essential part" of diplomatic efforts in dealing with Iran. The EU imposed a complete embargo over oil purchases and transport of Iranian oil, banning European companies from insuring tankers carrying Iranian oil. Experts from Iran and the G5+1 (US, Russia, China, France, UK, Germany) are due to meet Tuesday in Istanbul in an effort to progress in the issue. The last round of talks held last on June 18-19 in Moscow ended with no results.
