Self-employment is most popular in Turkey (82pct vs. 15pct who favour employment), followed by Brazil (63pct vs. 33pct), China (56pct vs. 32pct), Croatia (54pct vs. 40pct) and South Korea (53pct vs. 46pct), according to an EU survey published here Wednesday. But only 37 percent of EU citizens surveyed said that they would like to be self-employed, while a majority (58pct) would prefer to be an employee. The fear of bankruptcy is one of the largest obstacles for many people in the EU to start a business, said the survey titled "Entrepreneurship in the EU and beyond" conducted by the European Commission. A large majority of EU respondents think that it is difficult to start one's own business due to a lack of available financial support and due to complexities of the administrative process. Moreover, 51 percent of EU respondents think that it is difficult to obtain sufficient information on how to start a business.
