Texas Legislature, a bicameral body made up of the House of Representatives and Senate, on Wednesday officially thanked Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan for his contributions to Turkey-Texas relations. Texas House of Representatives and the Senate of Texas on Wednesday adopted a resolution recognizing and expressing appreciation for Zafer Caglayan's efforts to develop Turkey-Texas relations. Speaking at the Texas Senate on Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst said that he thanked Zafer Caglayan on behalf of the Senate for his efforts to boost Turkey-Texas relations. The resolution was offered to the Texas Senate by Senators Eddie Lucio and Rodney Ellis who stressed on Turkey's progress, especially in the health field, in speeches delivered prior to the adoption of the resolution. Following the adoption of the resolution at the Senate, Dewhurst and other senators congratulated Zafer Caglayan. Turkish Consul General in Houston Cemalettin Aydin and Turkish deputies were present at the Texas Senate during the session in which Caglayan was thanked for his contributions to Turkey-Texas relations. Turkey's national air carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) began flights between Istanbul and Houston earlier this week. Caglayan was in THY's first flight to Houston.
