Copenhagen - UPI

Denmark said Wednesday it will keep sending aid money to Uganda even if the African nation passes anti-gay legislation. Development minister Christian Friis Bach told The Copenhagen Post canceling the $50 million Denmark gives Uganda each year would only make matters worse for sexual minorities in the country. "If we cease our projects, such as for better education and clean drinking water, people in Uganda will feel that they are being punished and will vent their anger at the homosexual community," he said. Since 2009 Uganda's parliament has been discussing whether homosexuality should be made a crime punishable by death. A vote on a bill doing just that is expected shortly. African nations that prosecute homosexuality include Sudan, Mauritania, Tanzania, Sierra Leone and parts of Nigeria and Somalia.
