Japan appreciates Kuwait's role in expanding the Asia Cooperation Dialogue's role and sees that the continent's "huge economic and manpower potentials can make it a global economic leader. Japanese Ambassador to Kuwait, Kazuhiro Nakai, who headed the Japanese delegation at the preparatory talks ahead of the major summit a day later, said that his country hopes the talks would support the continent's increasing financial and economic competitively on the global stage. Japan has not come with any proposals in mind for tomorrow, but is keen to discuss all of the issues Kuwait has planned, "which will no doubt will include issues of major importance that would usher forward steps for Asian cooperation," he said. The summit (which will host heads of state for the first time) is the result of positive discussions held by member nations over a 10-year period, he said, noting to the ACD's history on the ministerial level, before this was changed by the initiative of Kuwait. "We welcome the initiative of HH the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah aimed at enhancing the Asia Cooperation Dialogue and expanding its responsibilities." The summit will give Japan added opportunities to converse, interact and strengthen relations with nations in the continent in all fields. Japan has already been holding sideline meetings, "including Kuwait, regarding vital fields of mutual importance".
