The quantity of products confiscated by the Algerian customs authorities in 2011 is outstanding, when compared to 2010. According to information given by the national customs office, the products confiscated in Algeria in 2011 compared to the previous year have registered an increase of 84.5%, going from 379,774 to 700,000 units. Over 57 percent of the total, as APS reports, are cosmetic products: toothpaste, shampoo, razors. The other top counterfeit items which were confiscated are sporting goods, clothing and footwear, with a 36.22% increase compared to 2010, and also gift shop goods (+5.56%). The counterfeit products, as claimed once again by the Algerian customs, come mainly from China (94.44%), followed by, although at a much smaller rate, by Turkey (3.56%). (ANSAmed).
