Riyadh - Arabstoday

Commerce and Industry Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah yesterday laid the foundation for GCC Standards Organization’s headquarters in Riyadh in the presence of UAE Minister of Environment Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd. Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Al-Rabiah referred to the directives from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to extend all support to GCC organizations in the Kingdom. “The Saudi ministries and departments will provide all necessary assistance to remove obstacles facing GCC organizations in order to achieve greater integration and realize the objective of GCC union,” Al-Rabiah said. He highlighted the role of the GCC Standards Organization in unifying standards in the member countries and improving quality of products. “It contributes to promoting trade between GCC states and protecting consumers and environment,” he added. The UAE minister Fahd, who is current chairman of the GCC Standards Organization, congratulated the Saudi government and people on the quick recovery of King Abdullah following a back surgery. Nabil Mulla, secretary-general of the GCC Standards Organization, thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for allocating 11,475 square meters of land for the project and meeting the expenditures for building the headquarters.
