Abu Dhabi - WAM

Al Maabar announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MIS Solutions Inc. to establish a Minimally Invasive Surgical (MIS) center as part of the second phase of Marsa Zayed, the largest mega mixed-use development project in the region in the Jordanian city of Aqaba. The center will be the first-of-its-kind in the Middle East. The MoU was signed by the CEO of Al Maabar Jordan, Emad Kilani and the Managing Director of MIS Solutions Inc., Mohammed Al-Turk, in the presence of the ASEZA Chief Commissioner, Dr. Kamel Mahadin. The MoU will serve to help streamline the efforts of both parties in conducting all necessary studies and allocating all necessary investments required to bring the MIS center into fruition. Following the conclusion of these studies in the coming months, an agreement will be signed to establish a company responsible for overseeing the project. The center will host world-class surgeons to institutionalize best practices as well as knowledge transfer to local and regional physicians. The goal is to develop a strong relationship with a western academic partner and to this end we are working with the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization to develop a strategic partnership. The center will be linked to a network of referral clinics in key cities around the region, which will serve to diagnose and refer patients to the MIS center in Aqaba. The American Hospital Management Company, an establishment with global expertise and a successful track record of diversified international hospital management and administration, has been chosen to manage the center in order to ensure the efficiency and efficacy of its operations. Yousef Al Nowais, Managing Director of Al Maabar said: "We are proud of the value that this partnership will add to Marsa Zayed; the center will attract patients from around the world through its strategic location in Aqaba. It will give them a unique healthcare experience that will allow them to be treated by qualified doctors using the latest medical technology, and will provide them with the perfect place to recuperate after treatment as they enjoy the picturesque nature of Aqaba." Al Nowais added: "This kind of partnership with major international companies is allowing us to move forward towards achieving our vision. We are committed to delivering landmark property developments which open doors to opportunities for economic growth and a brighter future for our partner countries." Managing Director of MIS Solutions Inc., Mohammed Al-Turk, also spoke on the occasion, saying: " This MIS center will be the first of its kind in the region, and is slated to offer comprehensive and integrated MIS procedures. The Marsa Zayed project provides an ideal location for such a center, as it will guarantee a unique wellness experience for patients. We are eager to move forward with this fruitful partnership, building upon Al Maabar's demonstrated expertise in real estate development and the construction of sustainable communities that exist in harmony with the local heritage." Inspired by the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Marsa Zayed, a 3.2 million-square-meter development, is the largest mega mixed-use development project envisioned in the region. Marsa Zayed promises to transform the city of Aqaba into a bustling center of commerce, tourism and living. In addition to an eclectic blend of residential, commercial, touristic and retail properties and facilities, the project will include the development of two kilometers of prime waterfront, complete with a modern cruise ship terminal and other marine facilities. The project, which is being developed by Abu Dhabi-based developer Al Maabar, is currently in its first phase of development, which comprises two major components: Al Raha Village, a serene residential neighborhood at the southern edge of Marsa Zayed set to include more than 500 residential units, each equipped with modern amenities and access to an array of idyllic community facilities; and the Sheikh Zayed Masjid, a large, ornate mosque on the northern edge of the property, which is expected to be completed later this year. Marsa Zayed's innovative development concept and world-class architecture and design have already been honored at the Arabian Property Awards for two consecutive years, in both 2012 and 2013.
