Iran and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday on the construction of Tabriz-Bazargan highway.
The MoU was signed during a meeting between Iran's East Azarbaijan Road and Urbanization Director General and Managing Director of Turkey's Birgiz Company at the presence of East Azarbaijan Governor General Esmayeel Jabarzadeh in the provincial capital, Tabriz, on Tuesday.
The Tabriz-Bazargan Highway will be constructed at a length of 255 kilometers and Birgiz Company is due to carry out a four-month study to estimate the costs of the project.
The East Azarbaijan governor general pointed to the MoU signed to complete the project, and said, "We agreed on the construction of Tabriz-Bazargan Highway with the Turkish company due to the capabilities of the Turkish company and also after it showed interest in the project."
Jabarzadeh pointed out that the project would be accomplished in 4 years, and said, "East Azarbaijan and Turkey have jointly completed several major projects so far and I hope that this project will be a new beginning for bigger projects."
Earlier today, Adviser of Ardebil Governor-General Farzad Kisan said at a meeting with a visiting Turkish delegation in the Northwestern Iranian city on Tuesday that the city council has held primary talks with a Turkish investment company for the construction of Ardebil-Tehran highway.
"We have conducted talks with this investor for the construction of Ardebil-Tehran highway and Ardebil-Miyaneh express railway and its connection to Parsabad (near the border with the Azerbaijan Republic) on the basis of a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model," Kisan continued.
He pointed to the willingness of the Turkish investor to invest in Ardebil city's monorail system as well, and said, "The Turkish investor has voiced his willingness to help Ardebil municipality to construct a monorail system in the city which will reduce the traffic problems of the city."
Iran and Turkey signed 10 economic agreements during a visit by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at the head of a high-ranking delegation to Turkey in June.
