The European Union
Yangon - XINHUA

The European Union (EU) has pledged to fund 100 million euros (about 133 million U.S. dollars) for Myanmar's development sectors annually, official media reported Friday.

The EU has allocated a total of 1 billion euros in aid to Myanmar over the period 2014-2020 to help develop four key sectors including development of rural areas, agriculture, food and nutrition security, education promotion, improvement of governance and rule of law, and peace building.

Myanmar will also continue to receive support from EU for governance and human rights, environment and climate change, human development, sustainable energy and trade.

The EU started to provide aid to the country's election process in 2013.

The EU aid also includes training for over 6,500 Myanmar police members and improvement of livelihoods of ethnic people in areas plagued by armed conflicts.
