Mustafa Khalfi speaking to the press Morocco's communications minister and government spokesperson Mustafa Khalfi announced that a national dialogue on press law would begin next Thursday on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day organised by a joint initiative between the ministries of communication and justice and national union of Moroccan press and federal Moroccan publishers.
Khalfi said, in a speech at a seminar organised by Moroccan Arab Press Agency, that the dialogue was an open call for participation. He also said a course on press law would be organised as "Morocco is in need of a modern law able to provide guarantees for journalists and help them meet challenges associated with the development of the country concerning global press freedom".
He also said the press law should be accurately reviewed through an open discussion with all human rights organisations and civil society groups.
"This law, which embodies the provisions of chapters 27 and 28 of the constitution, will be ready at the opening of the next legislative session. In this regard, the ministry of communication has invited everyone to contribute in the discussion," he said.
