
Acting Head of Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Ibrahim Al-Kuwari, has stated that investigations are still in progress in regard to the Reform and Rehabilitation Center's inmate death incident.
Al-Kuwari said that investigations have taken a new course for the existing of a torture crime that caused the death of the victim, where Article 208 of the Penal Code prevents getting a confession from a victim by causing him a severe physical or mental pain. Accordingly charges have been pressed against two suspects in conformity with aforementioned legal Article.
In this regard, the SIU has questioned two officers of the Reform and Rehabilitation Center who are now facing charges of violating Article 208 of the Penal Code. The SIU also heard the statement of the doctor who issued the victim's death report.
