The Muslim Council of Elders has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Al Rawdah Mosque in Bir al-Abed, North Sinai Governorate, Egypt, on Friday.
According to the latest death toll, nearly 200 worshippers were killed while 130 others were injured in the blast.
"The targeting of innocent and secure people has now extended to all religions, and no one is safe from these horrible terrorist attacks," the Council said, in a statement today.
The statement called for unity and solidarity among international security forces and organisations, to confront those who spread hate and extremist speech, and to take decisive action against their supporters and financiers.
The Council expressed its solidarity with Egypt in its fight against terrorism while offering its condolences to Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, as well as to the government and people of Egypt and the families of the victims. It also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
