
The National Institute of Human Rights (NIHR) will unveil its 2013-2016 strategy as part of festivities marking the National Day. NIHR President Dr. Abdulaziz Abul announced the move as he attended a lecture spotlighting the UN Convention Against Torture (CAT). Jordanian Arab Bridge Center for Human Rights (ABCH) secretary-general Dr. Amjad Bahjat Shammout delivered the lecture at Movenpick Hotel, Muharraq. The four-year blueprint scheme will include a series of training programmes and courses highlighting various aspects of human rights. Bahrain ratified the UN Convention Against Torture (CAT) by decree-law (4) for 1998. Dr. Abdul paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa for issuing decree (61) for 2013, establishing the Commission on the Rights of Prisoners and Detainees and specifying its prerogatives, describing the move as being unprecedented in the Arab World.
