Islamabad - XINHUA

At least four people were killed and several others injured when a suicide bomber hit a mosque in Pakistan's northwest Peshawar city Friday afternoon, local media reported. Urdu TV channel Dunya said that the blast happened at about 2: 00 p.m. (local time) when an unknown suicide bomber blew himself up at the main gate of the mosque located in a seminary in Hafiz Abad area of Peshawar, capital of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Talking to media, Senior Superintendent of Police Liaqat Khan said that the suicide bomber attacked a vehicle carrying religious scholar Haji Hayyat Ullah at the mosque's main gate, when he was on his way home after Friday prayer. The bomber exploded himself near the driver's door, due to which Hayyat Ullah's driver got killed, but he himself remained unhurt, said Liaqat. Shafqat Malik, Assistant Inspector General of bomb disposal squad, said the suicide bomber was carrying an estimated of six kg of explosives in his suicide vest. The seminary belonged to Sunni Muslims and there were over 150 people, including 100 students, inside the mosque when the incident happened. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Police cordoned off the blast site and started collecting evidence from the blast site.
