Nouakchott - Arabstoday

Mauritanian Equipment Minister Yehia Walad Hadmein has signed an agreement with Sadaka Port workers bringing to an end weeks of strikes which have cost the authority $2m. Deals addressed the main contentions between workers and bosses, allowing for a medical clinic, social insurances and financial compensation to be given to workers at the port. Strikes over the last two weeks have paralysed output at Sadaka, particularly after security forces attempted to block labourers from entering the port on Thursday. Many were injured during the clashes. Economic analyst Khaled el-Hady has meanwhile claimed that industrial disputes at the port have cost its owners around $2m. Workers representatives have expressed pleasure on hearing news of the deal.
