London - Qna

British industrial production declined unexpectedly in July, largelyreflecting weakness in mining and energy, marking an anemic start to the third quarter. Further, manufacturers scaled down their activity due to weak domestic demand, data from the Office for National Statistics showed Wednesday. Industrial production was down by seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent month-on-month. Economists had expected 0.2 percent growth after remaining flat in June. Manufacturing output edged up 0.1 percent in July, smaller than the 0.2 percent rise expected by economists. The marginal increase partially removed last month''s 0.4 percent fall. Within overall output, mining and quarrying and energy dropped 1.4 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively.
