Turkey's unemployment rate increased 0.4 point compared to January 2012 and became 10.6 percent in January 2013. Number of unemployed people increased by 226,000 in the period of January 2013 and has reached 2 million 890 thousand in Turkey. Unemployment rate realized as 10.6 percent with 0.4 percentage point increase. Non-agricultural unemployment rate was realized as 12.9 percent with 0.5 percentage point increase and youth unemployment rate was realized as 20.7 percent with 2.3 percentage points increase. Number of employed increased by 958,000 compared to the same period of the previous year and has reached 24,433.000 in the period of January 2013. Agricultural employment increased by 58,000 and non-agricultural employment increased by 900,000 persons in this period. Of those who were employed in January 2013, 22.4 percent was employed in agriculture, 19.9 percent was employed in industry, 6.3 percent was employed in construction and 51.4 percent was employed in services. Employment in construction increased by 0.2 percentage point and services increased by 0.5 percentage point while that of agriculture decreased by 0.7 percentage point and industry decreased by 0.1 percentage. Employment rate increased from 43.2 percent to 44.3 percent with 1.1 percentage points increase compared to the same period of the previous year. Labour force participation rate (LFPR) realized as 49.5 percent with 1.3 percentage points increase compared to the same period of the previous year for Turkey in January 2013 period. LFPR was realized as 70.4 percent with 0.7 percentage point increase for male and realized as 29.3 percent with 2.1 percentage points increase for female compared to the same period of the previous year. In the period of January 2012, the number of seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 89,000 and number of seasonally adjusted unemployed persons decreased by 28,000 compared to the previous period. Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate realized as 50.9 percent by 0.1 percentage point increase and employment rate realized as 46.1 percent by 0.1 percentage point increase. Unemployment rate realized as 9.4 percent by 0.1 percentage point decrease.
