A senior Iranian energy official announced Tehran’s enthusiasm for expanding cooperation with New Delhi in the agricultural industry. Iran’s Deputy Minister of Energy for Water and Hydroelectric power stations Alireza Daemi made the remarks in a meeting between the visiting Indian trade and industry delegation and managers of Iran’s water department in Tehran on Monday, the Iranian Fars News Agency (FNA) reported. The deputy minister said that Iran is keen to cooperate with India to establish large agro-industry complexes. Daemi said India enjoys major experience in construction of hydroelectric power stations with international technology. The Iranian and Indian officials also exchanged views on other cooperation grounds of mutual interests. Iran and India which have deep historical and cultural relations, currently seek to expand political and economic ties too. India, the world’s fourth-largest petroleum consumer, is Iran’s second largest oil customer after China and purchases around $12 billion worth of Iranian crude every year, about 12 percent of its consumption.
