Commerce and Industry Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah yesterday inaugurated a conference on accounting and auditing at King Saud University in Riyadh and emphasized accountancy’s role in boosting the national economy. He commended Saudi universities for their efforts to develop accounting. “The Saudi Commission of Chartered Accountants, which comes under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has been working to promote the profession of accounting and auditing,” he pointed out. The commission encourages Saudi cadre to excel in this important profession. Al-Rabiah commended the commission’s various initiatives to promote accounting and auditing professions in the Kingdom. “It has developed a mechanism to develop the works of accounting and auditing offices.” The commission has established an institute to train accountants and issue certificates. Dr. Muedi bin Muhammad Al-Madhab, dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at the university, emphasized his faculty’s readiness to conduct more research works and studies to solve the various economic, financial and administrative problems. Dr. Yahya Al-Jaber, head of the department of accountancy at the university, said his department had organized more than 12 seminars to develop the profession. Arab news
