Moscow - UPI

Officials are investigating allegations of embezzlement by subcontractors at Russia's national hydroelectric power company, the interior ministry said Saturday. The ministry said "large-scale" embezzlement was suspected among subcontractors working for the power company, RusHydro, RIA Novosti reported. The ministry has said the criminal activity could involve as much as $30 million. Officials said the investigation was focused on non-existent subcontractors involved in construction projects at the power company's facilities. Documents and other evidence have been seized in searches of subcontractor offices, the ministry said. One contract, with the Gidrostroy company, has already been canceled.
