Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a seminar on the role of logistics in supporting and promoting the business sector regionally and globally in light of the steady technological changes in the world. The seminar was held at the headquarters of Qatar Chamber on Tuesday, in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. The seminar tackled several key topics including the international trade and global market, the services logistics and the competitive advantage, logistics and supply chains, as well as the recent trends in services logistics and the professional certificates for the nternational Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Addressing the seminar, Eng. Ali Abdul-Latif Al-Misned, the Chairman of Al-Baida Group and Honorary Treasurer of Qatar Chamber, underlined that the transport sector and logistics services play a pivotal role in the renaissance which the State of Qatar is witnessing in all domains, especially with the preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022 and development process of other infrastructure projects in the country. He added that logistics are not simply an economic activity, but rather a strategic option to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable development. He noted that the Qatari the government gives great prominence to this vital sector, pointing out to Qatar's ambitious rail network project "Qatar Rail" which costs amounted up to USD 35 Billion. When completed, the project will comprise a Doha Metro mass transit, a long-distance passenger and freight rail and a local light rail. He added that Qatar Chamber was keen to host the seminar in order to bring together those interested in the latest developments in this important field and to be a platform for the exchange of ideas to come out with results that serves Qatar's economy in general. For his part, Prof. Khalid Hanafi, CITL Dean and Director Executive of the Arab Institute for Trade and Commodity Exchanges, stressed the importance of logistics and supply chains, especially in supporting the industrial and commercial sectors which promote the economy, which in turn determines the position of States globally. He underlined that the State of Qatar is among the communities which has strongly begun to engage in the areas of development, logistics, transport and supply chains, and became proactive in these fields despite being new for the Arab region. He pointed out that the world has witnessed recently great dramatic changes, summed up in one word is "globalization", which among its concepts making the world one small village in order to ensure the principle of access to information and communications, highlighting Qatar's leading role in this area, which provides an easy and smooth access to information as well as modern communication means.
