Compared with the Year 2000, poverty in Russia has reduced by a factor of three, President Vladimir Putin said Friday as he addressed a conference of the All-Russia People’s Front underway in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don. “I’d like to recall the fact that a total of 30% Russians lived at breadline level in 2000 and now their share stands at 11.2%,” he said. “The latter figure is big enough, too, and it’s important to keep up the efforts to reduce the numbers of impoverished citizens,” Putin said. He also pointed out the importance of assuring the accessibility of social services, especially for those who live below subsistence level.
