People with a degree in medicine or dentistry in Britain had the highest employment rate and average pay of all graduates, said a survey report issued by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Tuesday. According to the report, the employment rate for people with a degree in medicine or dentistry was at 95 percent in April-June of this year, the highest of all graduates, followed by those with media and information studies degrees at 93 percent. However, the survey found although people with media and information degrees were the second highest work rate, but their pay were the lowest. The medical graduates had the highest median pay at 45,600 pounds (about 73,400 U.S. dollars) a year, media and information studies graduates, the lowest pay of all subject groups, at 21,000 pounds. The report said after medicine and media studies, the next highest employment rates were for medical-related subject, such as nursing or midwifery with the employment rat at 93 percent, technology, at 92 percent, agricultural sciences, at 91 percent, and architecture, at 90 percent. "The graduate employment rate was the lowest for those with humanities degrees, at 84 percent, followed by arts, at 85 percent, languages, 87 percent, education, 88 percent, and social sciences and law, 89 percent." The report said the proportion of the population classed as graduates has been rising steadily in the country, increasing from 17 percent in 1992 to 38 percent in 2013. Graduates have had consistently higher employment rates and consistently lower unemployment rates than non-graduates over the past decade. The ONS said that annual earnings for graduates increase at a fast pace as they become older and more experienced in the workplace, with an average income of 35,000 pounds a year at age of 38, compared with about 19,000 pounds for those with secondary education certificates at age of around age 32, and about 22,000 pounds with those with A-levels at about age of 34.
