Myanmar Vice President Dr. Sai Mauk Kham has reiterated the country's willingness to welcome foreign investment in deep-sea port projects and special economic zones throughout the country, official media reported Thursday. Myanmar will ensure the legitimate rights and benefits of foreign investors with the new foreign investment law that was just made public last month, the vice president said at a forum of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held here Wednesday. "Under this new law, potential investors are accorded not only with varying degrees of privileges related to income, commercial tax and duties, but also protection of theri property and profits, " he said. During the law-making process, Myanmar has taken into account the interest and concerns of all stakeholders to ensure that it is beneficial to all parties, he added. As for the 9th ASEAN 100 Leadership Forum, which ended here Thursday, the vice president said that Myanmar takes it as "a platform to express different opinions and broad perspectives from leading businessmen, government officials and representatives of the civil society." "With our strong resolution to achieve success in political and economic reforms, we believe that we will become a reliable partner and an effective contributor for peace and prosperity in the region," he said.
