A group of youths with masked faces threw Molotov cocktails at riot police on Panepistimiou Street, near Syntagma Square. Police charged at the protesters, dispersing them. Tens of thousands people have gathered before parliament in Syntagma Square to protest the government's austerity measures and German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit. Police sources put the demonstrators at 40,000 while organizers from the Civil Servants' Confederation (ADEDY) and General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), which called for the demonstration, say they are many more.
