The governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Siddig Al-Kabiir, announced that the new currency begins circulation in Libya by the end of January 2013 of its five, ten, twenty and fifty dinar denominations. According to a statement issued by Mr. Al-Kabiir, the Central Bank of Libya began since the beginning of last October its withdrawing of the fourth and fifth issues of Libya's old 10 and 20 dinar paper currency. The bank is expected to continue to withdraw the old currency as per the timetable approved by the bank's board of directors. The Central Bank of Libya announced last year that it was going to replace the local currency with a new one which does not bear images or portraits of the late Colonel Muammar Gadhafi.
