Billionaire investor George Soros said in Athens Friday the European Union's image had been altered by the economic crisis. Speaking at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation International Conference on Philanthropy, Soros said the 27-member European Union had been known as a group of peers before the crisis but has since become known as a divided community made up of creditors and borrowers. Ekathimerini reported the division has left Greeks feeling "cheated" and has sparked anger toward immigrants. Soros urged an EU-wide solution be found, rather than having each country come up with its own response to the economic downturn.
