Gold prices held steady on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange Monday, losing 10 cents or 0.01 percent to $1,628 per troy ounce. Silver lost 5.5 cents to close at $28.685 per troy ounce. The dollar was mixed across Asia and higher in Europe with the dollar index up 0.44 percent to 81.95 on the International Exchange. The euro fell to $1.2574 from Friday's $1.264. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 79.11 yen from Friday's 78.71 yen. The British pound was $1.5669 from $1.5715. The dollar was trading at 1.0243 Canadian dollars from 1.0218 Canadian.
