Participants of a ministerial conference of the Central European Initiative (CEI) on new-generation biofuel expressed their support to a proposal to create a fund supporting CEI in this field, said a statement issued after the meeting which closed last night. Participants stressed the 'excellent results of actions and activities in this sector, in particular the ability to attract European funding'. CEI's secretariat based in Trieste is already working on three proposals to be presented at the EU's Seventh Framework Programme for Research. The first project is aimed at promoting the production of biomass in Europe through a distribution and commercialization network of biomass not destined to the food industry. A computer system to support development projects in this sector will be created. The second project means to offer technical assistance to the European Biofuels Technology Platform. The third project means to create a network of scientific and technological cooperation in the Danube area focusing on renewable energy and the economy of bio-resources.
