The European Union has donated to Jordan, under agreements signed by the two sides here on Thursday, a sum of 20 million Euros to support the general state budget and for the implementation of reform projects in the country. The agreements were signed by Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jafer Hassan and the Ambassador of the EU delegation to Jordan Joanna Wronecka. According to Jordanian official data, the grant is part of an additional grant worth a total 70 million euros of the European Union's initiative for nations of the Arab Spring, in supporting adopted reforms. It was announced at the first meeting of a joint EU-Jordanian high-level working group hosted by the latter last February. The first grant of 10 million euros adds to a grant worth 23 million euros of the total grant value becomes 23 million Euros and will be directed to support the second phase of reforms in the education sector, the Jordanian Minister said in a press statement after the signing. The second grant worth 3 million Euros is to support the judiciary while the third grant was worth 7 million Euros to support the electoral process in Jordan. The two sides would complete discussions on the exploitation of the remaining amount of additional grant worth 70 million Euros in a number of priority areas and Jordanian officials are expected to sign grants with a total value of 98 million Euros from the European Union this year and will grant to support treasury this year 2012 total amount of approximately 50 million Euros.
