Amman - Arabstoday

Denmark said on Sunday it plans to increase the aid provided to help Syrian refugees in Jordan, as the Kingdom reiterated the need to end the bloodshed in Syria. Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Monday met with Danish Minister of Development Cooperation Christian Friis Bach and discussed bilateral ties and regional developments, especially the situation in Syria, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Bach expressed his country’s keenness to increase relief aid provided to Syrian refugees in Jordan, stressing Denmark’s support for the Kingdom through its membership in the EU. During the meeting, Judeh renewed calls for a political solution to the crisis in Syria to end the bloodshed. The minister also outlined the humanitarian repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, especially under the growing number of Syrians taking refuge in the Kingdom, Petra reported. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted by friendly nations and international organisations to support Jordan in hosting Syrian refugees. Despite the growing economic burden, Amman follows an open-border policy that has led to the entry of some 200,000 Syrians into Jordan since March 2011, when the uprising against President Bashar Assad started.
