The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch programmes, initiatives and scientific awareness material on consumer protection for educators and professionals in the knowledge sector. The initiative is aimed to educate professionals about their rights and duties as consumers and strengthen DED's role towards building a knowledge economy. Khalid Al Kassim, Deputy Director General for Executive Affairs in DED, and Sultan Ali Lootah, Acting CEO in MBRF, signed the MoU. "We are pleased to sign the MoU with MBRF as we believe in their role in empowering future generations to become leaders, entrepreneurs and decision-makers. DED is determined to implement innovative programmes and projects that will enhance consumer awareness and protect their rights in line with our policy to provide a sustainable economic environment," said Al Kassim. He added: "DED will prepare an action plan including a timetable for the projects agreed upon in the MoU before starting the implementation process. DED will also provide logistical support for the programmes and projects, and also provide necessary information for the awareness materials to be distributed later on schools, universities and educational bodies." The awareness programmes will be implemented in partnership with a group of writers and Emirati artists, supervised by specialists in the knowledge production team of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and the Department of Economic Development.
