Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan said on Wednesday, referring to the Middle East, that permanent peace, welfare and development in the region could be established by having strong economies, and by constitution of fair and sustainable commerce. Caglayan made the opening speech of the first Turkish-Arab Economic Summit, attended by economy, investment and trade ministers of the Arab League in Mersin, south of Turkey. Caglayan stressed that the Turkish-Arab Economic Summit was the most extensive meeting of all times, and it had the highest broad participation ever. Referring to the continuous chaos in the Middle East, Caglayan said that permanent peace, welfare and development in the region could be established by having strong economies, and by constitution of fair and sustainable commerce. "We are announcing to the world once more that Turkey and Arabic countries are determined to make cooperation with each other," said Caglayan. Pointing to the importance of the cooperation between Turkey and Arab countries, Assistant Secretary-General at Economic Affairs for the Arab League Mohammed Al-Tuwaijri said that they would strengthen the cooperation between the countries, who attended the summit, by establishing a council.
