Msheireb Properties said Monday that it awarded a tender for building the infra-structure of phase 1/C of Msheireb Down Town project to Brookfield Multiplex Med Gulf. The tender was worth QR1.5 billion. Msheireb Properties said in a press release today that Brookfield Multiplex Med Gulf, a consortium of Brookfield Multiplex and Med Gulf, will become the primary contractor responsible for construction of phase 1/C. Msheireb down town is a QR20 billion project and is considered first sustainable downtown regeneration project. The total area for that phase is 225 thousand squared meters that includes 122 thousand squared meters dedicated for a parking lot. The parking lot will fit 1200 cars. The phase also has cooling facilities and an electricity power plant and includes 10 buildings, four of which are dedicated for offices. Five of them will be residential buildings as well as a primary school and a nursery that make up for the 10th building. Chief Officer of Design and Delivery at Msheireb Properties Mohammed Al Marri said with the awarding of the contract, the coalition was a “step closer” to realizing the vision of Msheireb Properties of a refurbished Doha down town area. He said that the joint venture between Canadian owned Brookfield Multiplex and local construction firm Med Gulf was also part of their strategy of developing national expertise.
