Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah met today with Japanese Ambassador to Bahrain Shigeki Sumi, who was accompanied by Foreign Ministry Director For Middle Eastern and African Affairs Kenichiro Mukai and his accompanying delegation. He stressed strong ties binding the two friendly countries as well as partnership opportunities mainly in the economic and investment fields. The Foreign Ministry Undersecretary spotlighted the steps taken by Bahrain's wise leadership in political, economic and social fields to boost human rights and carry out the recommendations of Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) and the National Consensus Dialogue. He also pointed out Bahrain's approval of 90% of the Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review recommendations and the council's endorsement of the kingdom's report in Geneva. The Japanese diplomatic delegation hailed the steps, underlining relations of friendship between the two countries and the need to boost bilateral cooperation. Both sides also discussed regional and international issues of common concern.
