The 4th Annual Middle East DC (District Cooling) Summit has been officially inaugurated on Sunday, as more than 200 delegates gather to learn of the latest District Cooling (DC) technologies, regulations, opportunities and tech solutions in the GCC utilities sector. The three-day event opened with remarks from the chairperson George Berbari, Chief Executive Officer, DC Pro Engineering, UAE, followed by the Chief Advisory Speech by Salah Nezar, Sustainability Director, Qatar Project Management. In total, the 4th Annual Middle East DC (District Cooling) Summit hosted by Fleming Gulf Utilities Division is a host to, 35 regional and international DC experts to discuss DC technologies, solutions and trends. The three-day summit features 20 presentations, 4 panel discussions and a business networking session, before culminating with half-day post conference workshops on the final day. Joining the inaugural committee was Dr Mishan Al Otaibi, Ministry of Electricity And Water, Kuwait, Assistant Undersecretary of Planning & Training and Eng. Ibrahim Mohamed Al Sada, Manager, District Cooling Services Dept., Qatar General Electricity & Water Corp (Kahramaa). A special address delivered by Pekka Sauri, Deputy Mayor of The City of Helsinki, Finland also took place. The summit will take place until 27 November, 2012 at the Doha Grand Hyatt Hotel and promises to redefine the outlook for District Cooling in the GCC market. Salah Nezar, Sustainability Director, Qatar Project Management and Co-Chairman of the summit said: “This year the district cooling business in Qatar is going to make a fundamental transformation towards a more regulated industry. This transformation will open the doors for a lot of opportunities for a more mature development of a centralized cooling solution engaging more parties.” The first day of summit was closed with a panel discussion on “Executing a cost effective and in time District Cooling Plant — Contractors Role” with panelists Pradeep Saxena the General Manager of Transgulf International Electromechanical, Nidal Salameh, Managing Director, MACE Qatar and Khalil Issa, Managing Director, ADC Energy Systems, UAE.
