Figures by the Algerian National Office for Statistics released data on Sunday for 2011 which indicated the unemployment rate in Algeria is stable compared to 2010, which was estimated at 10 percent, with a significant decline in the university sector. It recorded last year's rate at 16.1 percent, which is significantly lower than 2010 where the statistics office recorded 21.4 percent. According to the National Office of Statistics, the number of unemployed reached 1,063,000. The same source added that the number of population at the working age (15 years and above) during the current year was estimated at 26,663,000 workers or 72.2 percent of the population. These consists of 50.4 percent of men and 49.6 percent of women, according to the International Labour Office. The National Office of Statistics admitted that this is only a general level and there were significant differences in terms of age, sex and education level.
