Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Thursday morning as investors took a break from chasing higher prices after a five-day rally.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 51.22 points, or 0.29 percent, from Wednesday to 17,803.01.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 2.92 points, or 0.20 percent, to 1,423. 10.
Major decliners included air transport, mining, and oil and coal issues.
