Nikkei closed lower Tuesday after the Bank of Japan left its monetary policy unchanged. The 225-issue average fell 10.56 points, or 0.12 percent, to 9, 142.64 after surging 5.7 percent in the previous four sessions. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.12 point, or 0.02 percent, to 762.04. Decliners included miscellaneous products makers, consumer finance firms and real estate developers, while gainers included sea transport companies, oil distributors and telecommunications firms. The turnover was about 1,101.2 billion yen (about 13.55 billion U.S. dollars).
