Hong Kong stocks closed down 235. 91 points, or 0.99 percent, to 23,485.41 points on Tuesday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 23,312.50 and 23, 611.00. Turnover totaled 114.74 billion HK dollars (about 14.01 billion U.S. dollars).
The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 215.92 points, or 1. 77 percent, to close at 11,990.79.
All of the four sub-indices lost ground. The Finance sub-index dropped the most at 1.63 percent, followed by Properties at 1.47 percent, the Utilities at 0.73 percent, the Commerce & Industry at 0.07 percent.
Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, dropped 1.58 percent to close at 71.75 HK dollars. Its local unit Hang Seng Bank lowered 0.78 percent to 126. 90 HK dollars.
