The Dow and S&P 500 Friday closed at new records following fresh merger and acquisition activity, even as the Nasdaq Composite Index dipped slightly.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 18.43 (0.11 percent) to 16,717.17, edging above the previous record by less than 2 points
The S&P 500 advanced 3.54 (0.18 percent) to 1,923.57, notching a record for the second straight day.
But the tech-rich Nasdaq fell 5.33 (0.13 percent) to 4,242.62.
