Manama - BNA

As part of GPIC's maintenance activities during the Turnaround period in November, the company has examined the Heat Exchanger Unit in the Urea Plant using a high-pressure (HP) Stripper which is the first of its kind in terms of manufacturing and materials technology used, alongside American and Italian specialists brought in specially for the procedure by the company Cast World, Bahraini engineers also played a significant role in the event. This was in addition to their usual activities in the screening of equipment and other technical components in need of maintenance. On the occasion, Mr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, GPIC’s President, explained that the Exchanger started running in 2010, but that it had now been inspected for the first time during the scheduled maintenance overhaul after running successfully for 900 days. He also expressed pride that female engineers had been involved in inspections of the equipment during Turnaround, as well as in the inspection using the HP Stripper on the Heat Exchanger. He noted the professionalism and high technical level reached by female Bahraini workers in the Company, and vowed to continue the great care and attention shown by the Company's management to working women by giving them opportunities for excellence through specialized courses to refine their skills and launch their talents. He added that the Executive Management is making great efforts to give female Bahraini workers as much encouragement possible, not just by training them and giving them opportunities for promotion and leadership, but also through their involvement in various specialized operations of the company. This is in response to the request by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa, wife of H.M. the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, to support the potential of Bahraini women and give them opportunities that help them highlight their unique talents in all areas of working life. At the end of his speech, the President expressed his deep pride in the ladies’ efforts, and stated that they contributed to the Company’s excellence and success at different levels. GPIC has brought in approximately two thousand highly experienced workers from different global manufacturers and international and local suppliers of specialist labour from around the world in order to carry out comprehensive periodic maintenance on the plants. This includes the examination of both the Ammonia and Methanol Reactors, as well as reloading the catalyst trays inside the Urea Reactor and modernizing the high pressure pipes within the Urea Plant. The company is taking advantage of the Annual Forum for Training to enrich the experience of trained engineers and technicians of both sexes in the field of maintenance in general, and screening methods in particular.
