Aluminium Bahrain (Alba)’s credentials as an organisation that upholds environmental values and develops practical solutions to eliminate waste was bolstered through its sponsorship support worth BD 5,000 (US$ 13,000) for the 1st Bahrain Waste Management Forum & Exhibition 2011: Towards Zero Waste.Organised under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning, Dr Juma bin Ahmed Al Ka’abi, the 1st Bahrain Waste Management Forum & Exhibition 2011: Towards Zero Waste is being held on November 14 & 15, 2011 at the Gulf International Convention Centre, Gulf Hotel, Bahrain.Alba is the Gold Sponsor of this event hosted by Bahrain Polytechnic, and supported by the United Nations Educational Programme (UNEP) and the Public Commission for Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife (PMEW) with Tamkeen as a strategic partner. The inaugural conference provides a platform for local, regional and global experts to address some of the urgent issues related to waste management, explores some of the latest developments and technologies in the field, and examines progress made as well as challenges that lie ahead in successfully recycling waste. There will also be a tertiary youth forum, an exhibition and social networking events throughout the two days of the conference.Alba will be sharing its expertise through paper presentations during the two-day conference. Alba was one of the few companies in the world to have received the Millennium Business Award for Environmental Achievement by the United Nations in 2000.In Alba we believe that managing and recycling waste is not only good for the environment but also makes sound business sense. It promotes efficient use of resources, eliminates wasteful expenditure and brings in added value through constant recycling. It is for this reason we are proud to support the 1st Bahrain Waste Management Forum & Exhibition 2011 and look forward to discussions and solutions on meeting the conference’s main goal, which is, achieving zero waste.”Alba’s success in managing its water resources provides a small glimpse of the company’s accomplishment in recycling. To date, the quantity of water recycled represents 70% of the total quantity of wastewater that can be reused.
