Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) demonstrated its continuous support for workers rights with the declaration of results of the Alba Labour Union Elections that took place on October 12 & 13, 2011. The candidates; Yasser Abdulla Ahmed Al Hujairi, Ahmed Janahi, Basem Kuwaitan, Abdulla Ali Abdulla, Ali Hussain Ghuloom, Abdulla Mahdi Hasan Al Marraj, Ali Ahmed Yousif, Ali Abul Hassan, Habib Jalil Dashti, Ahmed Khalifa Al Khuzaie, Abdulla Hamza, Ali Al Binali, Wadeea Isa Juma, Abbas A Rahim Mahmood, and Hassan Saleh Al Ansari were elected to the Alba Labour Union Board. 2,553 employees - comprising 75 per cent of the workforce - voted in the Alba Labour Union Elections. The fifteen-member Alba Labour Union Board was elected for a three-year term. Amongst their various responsibilities, the Board will be addressing workers’ grievances as well as representing workers’ concerns before management. Commenting on the Alba Labour Union Elections, Alba’s Chief Executive, Laurent Schmitt said: “I like to congratulate the winners for once again winning the Alba Labour Union Elections. I like to wish them the very best as they begin their new term with renewed enthusiasm and vigour. The elections demonstrate the triumph of democratic principles as employees came in full force to exercise their voting rights. “We appreciate the work by Alba Labour Union Board in raising employees’ concerns as well as working in constructive cooperation with the management in protecting the interests of the company. We look forward to working closely with the newly elected Alba Union Board in strengthening Alba’s profile locally, regionally and globally.” The elections were conducted as per Subject 32 of the Internal Rules of the Alba Labour Union. Accordingly, registrations for candidacy for the elections were opened on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 and the registrations closed on Thursday, October 6, 2011.
