Jeddah Islamic Port
Jeddah - Arab Today

A citizen is demanding compensation from Jeddah Islamic Port customs for allegedly losing luxury carpets valued at SR500,000.
Abdulrazak Saeed Al-Mowlad said he discovered some of the carpets he bought were missing after they were delivered to a warehouse he had hired in south Jeddah, according to a report in a local publication recently.
He said he had paid SR1.6 million at an auction for items that had been abandoned at the port. They were all delivered except for 101 missing rolls valued at SR5,000 each, totaling SR505,000. He had bought 301 luxury Turkish carpets, 20 by 4 meters in size.
“The Jeddah port customs took a long time to give me the final sale papers and the carpets, despite having paid the amount in full. I waited around nine days and when I did not get all the items I contacted the director general of the customs department and informed him of the situation ...”
Al-Mowlad claimed that the seals on the containers, which should only be opened by the owner of the goods, had been tampered with. He had then discovered that there were 101 rolls missing.
Al-Mowlad said he submitted a complaint about the missing carpets but was not contacted for four days. At this point he became ill, his blood pressure shot up and he had a panic attack, he claimed.
“I am seeking compensation for each missing roll, hospital costs resulting from my deteriorating health, rent for warehouses, and loss of trust from traders who purchased carpets from me,” he said.
The port’s director of customs has said that he cannot comment because the matter is under investigation.
