Royal Charity Organisation (RCO)
Manama - BNA

The Royal Charity Organisation (RCO)’s efforts in providing relief aid to the disaster-hit Somali people reflect His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa’s innumerable humanitarian initiatives and constant keenness to support the needy and disaster-stricken people across the world.
Following directives from HM the King, RCO’s Honorary President, and under the patronage of RCO Board of Trustees Chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, RCO inaugurated a string of development projects in Somalia in order to rebuild Somalia and serve the Somali people.
RCO built the 17,500-square-metre Bahrain Specialist Hospital, with many medical specialties and facilities, which makes it an integrated hospital that will provide comprehensive medical care for about three million Somali citizens.
Moreover, the inauguration of the Bahrain Scientific Complex-Mogadishu National University that includes Somalia National University, is a model of the development projects in Somalia according to the Somali students.
Bahrain Scientific Complex contributes to upgrading the educational march, creating an educated generation of students and serving hundreds of students, faculty and administrative staff.
RCO Secretary-General Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayed inaugurated the Artesian Water Walls Project, under which RCO dug 10 artesian wells to extend a lifeline for more than 250 villages and more than 102,000 people across Somalia.
Bahrain received a State Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of its great support for the brotherly Somali people, and the kind initiatives of HM the King and the Bahraini government and people.
Somali officials lauded Bahrain’s stances, noting that Bahrain took the lead in development projects across Somalia over the past 20 years.
RCO works following a distinctive strategy based not only on providing urgent relief aid only, but also implements large development projects that contribute to the reconstruction of the land and meeting the human and people need constantly and continuously.
RCO, which was founded by HM the King on 14 July 2001, contributes to this great humanitarian side, which participates in providing aids in the humanitarian and relief campaigns for various sisterly and friendly countries in accordance with the Bahrain’s strategy.
Among other remarkable projects carried out by Bahrain was HM the King’s directives in 2012 to conduct more than 4,000 operations to restore sight to 1,000 Somali citizens in Bahrain National Ophthalmology Centre.
Also, upon HM the King’s directives, the Kingdom of Bahrain also built at Al-Zaatari Camp, the Bahrain Scientific Complex designated for the brotherly Syrian refugees, which consists of four integrated schools facilities of classrooms, laboratories, libraries and athletic fields and administrative offices.
In Gaza, the Bahrain School was established, which is the largest school in the Gaza Strip, that consists of four floors and contains all the educational and sports facilities, equipment and teaching aids.
The Kingdom's efforts in the service to humanity extended to support inventors and innovators so as to urge them to continue their march of serving humanity as HM the King's Personal Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa launched HM King Hamad International Award for Invention.
This award is the first of its kind in terms of content and noble goals, and aims to pave the way for inventors to continue the scientific inventions which will serve as the interface between scientific institutions and international companies to introduce and support scientific inventions and inventors.
HM the King is one of the key supporters of scientific movement and inventions on the global level, which is reflected through his directives of sponsoring the British Inventions Show, where Shaikh Nasser honoured the winners and participants in the exhibition, held in London with the participation of 170 inventor from across the world.
Shaikh Nasser also announced the birth of the world’s first Embassy of Invention in the Kingdom of Bahrain to support inventors and encourage them on their journey of discovery, which embodies HM the King’s vision of making Bahrain.
Bahrain also announced the launch of the Embassy of the Inventors Initiative, which is an administrative organisation concerned with inventors and support them in various countries around the world and help in creating the adequate environment for them to continue their inventions. This Embassy embodies the vision of HM the King to make the Kingdom of Bahrain the cradle of global innovation where exciting ideas can be encouraged and seen to fruition in an institution that supports creativity and exploits human potential.
These efforts were behind honouring Shaikh Nasser as the Innovation leader by the British Institution, affirming its appreciation for Shaikh Nasser’s interest in inventors from all around the world.
The previous achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of HM the King, are aspects of Bahrain's efforts at the international level, as the Kingdom is working to strengthen international peace and security, combat terrorism and promote rapprochement among civilizations, it works as well to protect and upgrade human beings everywhere so as to serve humanity in the present and future.
