King Mohammed VI (R) and Malian President witness signing the agreement King Mohammed VI,  and Malian President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, chaired, on Friday at the royal residence in Bamako, the signing ceremony of an agreement on the training of Malian Imams (religious scholars).
Before signing the agreement, the King and the Malian head of state had a private meeting during which the Malian leader reiterated his thanks to the King for traveling to Bamako to attend his inauguration ceremony and for supporting efforts for peace and harmony in Mali.
The agreement, signed by endowment and Islamic affairs minister Ahmed Toufik and Malian minister for territorial administration and decentralization Moussa Sinko Coulibaly, touches mainly on religious cooperation.
Under the agreement and in conformity with the will of King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, and His Excellency Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, Morocco will train 500 Malian Imams over several years.
This action is part of Morocco's contribution to reconstructing Mali in a strategic area to address the threats of extremism.
Morocco and Mali share the same cultural and religious identity, mainly the Sunni Islam and the Maliki school of Islamic law, as well as the same values of tolerance and openness on the other. They are committed to peace, security, stability, development and good political and territorial governance.
