Sharjah - Arab Today

The Sharjah Media Centre yesterday unveiled a new logo and official website for Sharjah Events, http://www.sharjahevents.ae, which is dedicated to Sharjah's busy calendar of events and highlights the colourful diversity of the numerous socio-cultural activities, festivals, exhibitions and initiatives throughout the year.

Under the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the website 'Sharjah Events' has been launched to serve as a ready reference tool to update the public about various important events and activities taking place in the Emirate throughout the year, said Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), in his remarks before unveiling the official logo and website of the Sharjah calendar at a press conference yesterday.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi emphasised that 'Sharjah Events' puts the Emirate in the spotlight and offers a holistic view of Sharjah's exciting calendar of events, upcoming activities and all major attractions at a glance, arranging them according to their dates and a set of criteria.

"Sharjah is rich in events and activities that are organised by both the public and private sectors and are of equal importance as they all complement the Emirate's vision to meet the intellectual and social needs of its people and strengthen its presence internationally. This is what drives us to encourage interest in these events, presenting them within a single integrated framework that would give each one of them the attention and media coverage it deserves," he said.

Also present on the occasion were Tariq Al Naqbi, Director of SMC, and other senior Sharjah Government officials, as well as members of the media.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi expressed confidence that the 'Sharjah Events' initiative would help attract greater international focus on Sharjah as a distinguished all-year-long tourist, leisure and economic destination and attract visitors from around the world. The website is also expected to make it easier for the media to shed light on events held in the Emirate. "As the Cultural Capital of the Arab and Islamic world, Sharjah offers an abundance of fun, excitement and activities to visitors from around the world and for all age groups," added Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi.

He said that SMC has been working with various government entities and private institutions in the Emirate to make the Sharjah Events initiative a success and one that also encourages public and private participation. Latest information about all activities is added and revised by government departments and private entities as and when required, in order to help the public.

A presentation was also made about the new 'Sharjah Events' logo and website on the occasion, explaining their various features and their significance.

The website is constantly updated to help visitors to the site get an easy and bird's-eye-view perspective of all the notable activities and happenings in Sharjah. Government entities and private institutions have been grouped under one umbrella, providing users with the latest and most accurate information and updates about various events and developments in the Emirate.

Bringing together all of Sharjah's festivals, exhibitions, activities and initiatives at a single platform, 'Sharjah Events' also works with and supports local organisers of events, helping and encouraging the public and private sector players to promote their activities.

The portal, developed and run by SMC, classifies events into seven different categories, namely Family, Sports, Business, Education, Culture, Heritage, and Art. It gives its registered users access to a variety of services and applications, in addition to offering them the opportunity to create their own pages.
