London - UPI

The first revival of the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical "A Chorus Line" is to open in London's West End in February, producers said. This will be the first time the show will be seen in London since the 1976 production, which won the Olivier Award for Best Musical. "A Chorus Line" is one of the longest-running musicals in Broadway history, having played 6,137 performances. Featuring the songs "One (Singular Sensation)" and "What I Did For Love," the British revival will be staged at the London Palladium from Feb. 2 through June 29. The production will be directed by Broadway and West End veteran director-choreographer Bob Avian. He was the late director Michael Bennett's long-term collaborator and his co-choreographer on the original production of "A Chorus Line." Avian also directed the 2006 Broadway revival of "A Chorus Line." "I am delighted to welcome 'A Chorus Line' into The London Palladium," producer and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber said in a statement Thursday. "This classic Broadway production has not been seen in the West End for almost 35 years. [Composer] Marvin Hamlisch was a great friend and supporter in my early career and I can think of no more fitting tribute to him than this major revival." Hamlisch died in August at age 68.
